Catching up

We left a few days ago, but are just now getting time to set this up. Here is a summary of our past few days:

Tuesday
We went shopping for supplies before our grand adventure began. We went to Costco hoping to save some cash. Katie was a little disgusted to find that fruit snacks contain the same type of wax that she uses on her car. However, after obsessively looking at the nutrition facts, she decided on the Kellogg's. As we were leaving the aisle, an elderly worker came up and started shouting the praises of the Jelly Belly fruit snacks. She told us that her granddaughter buys that kind for her to snack on and that they were the best and you get 80 in one box! After that, of course Katie had to switch to the Jelly Belly brand. And we like to remember it as our first adventure.

Wednesday
We got around to leaving Omaha at about 9:30, with the plan to drive to Laramie that day. As we were driving along minding our own business, what do we come across in the middle of Nebraska, A CAMEL! Of course we had to stop, find the camel, and take pictures of it up close! We also had a planned stop at Sidney to see THE Cabela's there. The interstate had been closed by Laramie for part of the day because of snow (9 inches to 1 foot), so we canceled our reservations at the KOA for the night and almost went a different route. Luckily, we decided not to, and drove to Rawlins with no road problems.

Thursday
After driving to Salt Lake City, the apartment search began. We had no luck Thursday afternoon, which was really frustrating. We stayed with another former Raikes student that night, and resumed the apartment search Friday morning.

Friday
We found a couple good options for apartments throughout the day, but were still unsure by the time leasing offices closed. So, we stayed in Salt Lake that night and drove around the neighborhood of the apartment we liked best. We saw some residents walking dogs there and asked them what they thought of the place. After talking to them and some other people, we decided that was the place for us.

Saturday
We got to sleep in because leasing offices don't open until 10 on Saturdays. Then, we went to the apartment, took another look at it and asked a few final questions before filling out applications and putting down a deposit. After that, we drove to the north side of Zion national park and went on a 1 mile hike. We dropped our stuff off at the hotel, and then tried to find a place to eat to celebrate our apartment success. The first two places that we found online and wanted eat at were both closed, so we then just drove around in the direction back to our hotel. We ended up finding a great local diner, DeDe's. We highly recommend it for anyone visiting Cedar City, UT.
